Guess a hidden five-letter English word. Each guess must itself be a valid five-letter word. After submitting a guess, each letter is colored to indicate its status. Green means the letter is correct and in the right position. Yellow means the letter is in the word but in a different position. Gray means the letter does not appear in the word at all. Use these clues to eliminate possibilities and converge on the answer within six attempts.
A strong starting word contains common letters in typical positions and no repeated letters. Words like stare, crane, or adieu cover high-frequency letters and give maximum information from the first guess. Avoid starting words with uncommon letters or doubled letters. After the first guess, process the color feedback methodically: eliminate all gray letters from future guesses, lock green letters in their confirmed positions, and try yellow letters in different positions in subsequent guesses.
