Players alternate placing stones on a 15×15 board. The first player to get exactly 5 stones in a row (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) wins. In standard Gomoku, 6 or more in a row does not count as a win.
Gomoku and Go are different games played on similar boards. Gomoku's goal is to get 5 in a row. Go is a much more complex game where the goal is to control territory by surrounding opponent's stones. Gomoku is simpler and faster to learn.
Create 'double threats' — two ways to win simultaneously that your opponent cannot both block. Build open-ended sequences (stones with open spaces on both ends) as they're harder to block. Control the center of the board for maximum flexibility.
